The present invention relates to a method for determining the lateral distance of a preceding vehicle, and to a head up display system using the same. The method for determining the lateral distance of a preceding vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: detecting a plurality of input variables; determining whether or not conditions for determining a lateral distance are satisfied; and determining the lateral distance of the preceding vehicle based on the input variables if the conditions for determining a traverse distance are satisfied. |
