Class 20(3) In mechanism for operating windows, ventilating shutters, &c., hinge fittings 5, 6 are secured respectively e.g. to a pivoted window sash and its fixed frame respectively, the hinge fitting 6 pivotally carrying a casing 7 which contains a rotatable, but axially immovable, nut, not shown, which is engaged by a threaded spindle 10 extending through the casing 7, the nut meshing with helical projections on a cable, not shown, which can be moved axially in a guiding conduit 8 to rotate the nut and move the spindle 10 axially to operate the sash. The casing 7 carries a housing 9 for one end of the spindle 10 which has a slot 12, the other end having a reduced portion 13 which fits into a recess in a clamp fitting 14 with an eye 15 for pivotal inclusion in the hinge 5. The upper portion of the clamp fitting 14 has spaced jaws 16 which are connected by a nut and bolt 18, the shank of which fits into a groove 19 in the reduced portion 13 of the spindle 10. In normal operation the clamping nut and bolt 18 is tightened up, however, upon installation, or at subsequent times, the screw 10 can be adjusted by loosening the bolt 18 and turning the spindle 10, e.g. by engaging the slot 12 with a screwdriver. After adjustment the nut and bolt 18 are tightened up. In a modification, Fig. 3, the casing 20, housing the toothed wheel 21 in mesh with the operating cable is mounted to rotate in the hinge fitting 23 attached to the fixed frame, the toothed wheel 21 being made fast with the corresponding end of the screwed spindle 24 which passes through a nut 25 mounted in a clamp 26 having trunnions pivotally mounted in the hinge fitting 28 attached to the moving sash. The clamp is tightened by a clamping screw 29, the front of the nut 25 being flanged and radially slotted at 30 by means of which, when the clamp is loosened, it can be turned, e.g. by a screwdriver, to make adjustments. In an alternative arrangement the toothed wheel may be operated by a shaft. Specifications 749,419 and 749,928 are referred to. |
