An intermittent fluid pump is disclosed wherein a compressible fluid (gas) is introduced into a fluid storage housing containing a non-compressible fluid (liquid) thereby converting potential energy into kinetic energy that is released intermittently from a fluid transfer housing into a vertical oriented fluid discharge conveyance conduit. The gas transferred into the vertical oriented discharge conveyance conduit is provided time to form a large gas bubble that displaces the liquid thereby creating a density differential along with a forceful ascending lift. The ascending lift draws liquid into a liquid intake that is partially housed within lower section of the discharge conveyance conduit. As the liquid and the gas ascend and are discharged liquid is drawn into the storage housing forcing remaining gas volume to be transferred into discharge conveyance conduit. The complete filling of both the storage and the transfer housing with liquid temporarily interrupts any further transfer of gas into discharge conveyance conduit thereby establishing an intermittent cycling of fluid. The intermittent fluid pump can be operated separately, with a fluid distribution manifold or in combination with biofilm support substratum.
|
