The invention relates to a composite membrane comprising a porous support structure and a hydrophilic polymer forming a porous framework within the pore space of the support structure and a method for the production of the composite membrane. The composite membrane can be used in many processes in the biopharmaceutical industry, e.g., virus removal from liquids, protein separation, or selective adsorption.
