The present invention relates to an amine grafted chitosan nanofiber having the formula (I)
wherein R 1 to R 5 are independently selected from linear or branched C 1 -C 20 alkandiyl C 6 -C 24 arenediyl; k and m are independently selected from 1 to 10, wherein, in case that k and/or m are >1, each R 4 and R 5 group can be independently selected; and 1 and n are independently selected from 50-3000, a method for the preparation thereof and its use in heavy metal adsorption.
