The first detection unit and the second detection unit are located opposite each other with respect to the conveyance unit.

A recording material detection apparatus comprising: a light emitting unit configured to emit light; a light receiving unit configured to receive the light emitted from the light emitting unit via a recording material; an ultrasonic wave transmitting unit configured to transmit an ultrasonic wave; and an ultrasonic wave receiving unit configured to receive the ultrasonic wave transmitted from the ultrasonic wave transmitting unit via the recording material, the ultrasonic wave receiving unit being different from the light receiving unit, wherein the light emitting unit, the light receiving unit, the ultrasonic wave transmitting unit and the ultrasonic wave receiving unit are located at a downstream side of a feeding unit configured to feed the recording material in a direction of conveying the recording material, and wherein the light receiving unit is configured to receive the light emitted from the light emitting unit via the recording material and the ultrasonic wave receiving unit is configured to receive the ultrasonic wave transmitted from the ultrasonic wave transmitting unit via the recording material while a contact member is in contact with the recording material.
