PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image formation device and an image formation method, capable of discriminating sheet type with precision at a low cost. ! SOLUTION: A deflection generation control part 301 makes a sheet that is delivered from a transportation roller 156 abut with a resist roller 157 whose rotation being interrupted, and by making the sheet further advance under that condition, a deflection is generated at a portion of the sheet near the resist roller 157. A deflection settling control part 302, after the deflection is generated at the sheet, controls the resist roller 157 or the transportation roller 156 before the sheet is delivered to an image generation part 160, for settling deflection of the sheet. An optical sensor 161 is provided on an upper stream side of the resist roller 157 at a sheet transportation path 165, and obtains optical information of the sheet whose deflection has been settled. !
