PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to reliably detect deterioration of a fixing member without forming a test pattern. ! SOLUTION: An inspection apparatus 300 detects a first area E1 where the amount of toner per unit area is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold, from an input image, and detects a second area E2 to be fixed to a recording medium at a distance from the first area by one period of endless displacement of a fixing roller surface. On the basis of input image data and inspection image data, the amount of increase of toner per unit area in the second area, which is obtained when the toner to be offset from the recording medium to the fixing member in the first area is adhered again from the fixing member to the recording medium in the second area, is calculated.
