摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute encoder that is advantageous in view of quantization for obtaining a data sequence indicating an absolute position.SOLUTION: An absolute encoder comprises: a scale (2) in which a plurality of marks including two or more kinds of marks are arranged with an interval and a cycle; a detector (3) including a plurality of elements arrayed along the array and thereby detecting some marks in the plurality of marks; and a signal processing unit (10) for generating a data sequence by quantizing the amplitude per cycle of cyclic signals for a plurality of cycles outputted from the detector, and generating, from the data sequence, first position data representing the absolute position of the scale or the detector along the array and spaced by the cycle as a resolution. The signal processing unit obtains, by using a plurality of representative values obtained from each cycle from the cyclic signal for a plurality of cycles, a plurality of thresholds for the quantization, each corresponding to a plurality of cyclic signals among the cyclic signals for the plurality of cycles.
