PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical filter that achieves prevention of damages in a wire grid structure as well as suppression of degradation in optical characteristics, can be easily disposed close to an imaging element, and can be manufactured with little process variations and a high yield. ! SOLUTION: The optical filter includes a substrate 20 that is transparent to light in a use band, a polarizing filter layer 16 disposed on the substrate 20 and having a plurality of polarizer patterns with different transmission polarization axes, and a cap layer 40 covering an outer surface of the polarizing filter layer 16. The polarizing filter layer 16 includes a wire grid 10 having a period smaller than a wavelength of light in the use band. The cap layer 40 is made of a transparent material.
