PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve communication flow control capable of preventing deterioration in reception performance without losing communication data. ! SOLUTION: A printer 100 with a communication function comprises a CPU 102, a data reception memory 204 which stores all data transmitted from an external device, and a print data reception memory 211 which stores print data among the all data. The CPU 102 determines whether there is a free space in the memories 204 and 211. When there is no free space in the memory 204, the CPU 102 sets a zero as the data size which can be received from the external device. When there is a free space in the memory 204 but there is no free space in the memory 211, the CPU 102 sets a first data size as the data size which can be received. When there is a free space in the memory 211, the CPU 102 sets a second data size larger than the first data size as the data size which can be received, and transmits the set data size to the external device. !
