PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for protecting the authenticity of an article against counterfeit or imitation in which the process for verifying the authenticity of an article is simplified by raising the level of credibility.SOLUTION: During a packaging process, the label of a container is attached to an article. The label of a container is encrypted by cryptographic algorithm, and has a state bill having a serial number displayed on the outer surface of the label as a verification code. At the time of verification, the verification code is decrypted by an encryption key. The verification code is displayed by the format of alphanumeric information or the format of two-dimensional QR bar code, and more than one verification codes are displayed on the outer surface of the label.
