<p>The present invention relates to a gesture recognition apparatus for a vehicle and a method thereof. The gesture recognition apparatus for a vehicle according to the present invention comprises: an image generation unit for generating an object image by photographing a user; a feature point candidate detection unit for extracting a hand image showing a hand of the user from the object image, and detecting a plurality of feature point candidates corresponding to each end point of the fingers and each point between the fingers, and a central point of the wrist from the hand image; a palm detection unit for extracting a palm region from the hand image and detecting a central point of the palm region; a finger detection unit for detecting a finger region from the hand image and the detected palm region; a feature point detection unit for selecting at least one of the feature point candidates on the basis of the palm region, finger region, and central points of the wrist and palm so as to detect feature points; and a gesture recognition unit for recognizing the number of the fingers which are shown in the hand image, according to the feature points, and selecting a category corresponding to the number of the recognized fingers among a plurality of categories which are classified in advance by the number of the fingers so as to recognize a gesture.</p> |
