The present invention provides a mobile terminal, comprising: a terminal body having a display unit formed on one side thereof; a cover which is coupled with the terminal body to enable switching between a closed state where the cover covers the display unit and an opened state where the display unit is exposed, and which includes at least one magnet having magnetic properties that change according to the switching between the closed state and the opened state; a sensor unit which is disposed in the terminal body so as to correspond to the magnet and which is formed so as to sense the magnetic property changes; and a control unit for controlling the display unit so as to output screen information related to a preset application according to a magnetic property change of the at least one magnet.
