This drive device (1) is provided with a plate-shape drive unit (3) which comprises a plate-shape elastic body (11) and a piezoelectric element (12) joined to at least one primary surface of said plate-shape elastic body (11); and a moving body (4) which is inserted into an opening (11c) in the elastic body (11) and which is fed at a certain pitch by driving the drive unit (3). By driving the piezoelectric element (12), the drive unit (3) is configured to vibrate with flexural vibration, and either at least one other type of vibration mode other than flexural vibration or a combined mode vibration of flexural vibration and another vibration mode, and this vibration includes vibration forms that allow a moveable state, in which the inner wall of the opening (11c) in the elastic body (11) is frictionally engaged with the moving body (4) so as to allow movement of the moving body (4), and a release state in which the inner wall of the opening (11c) in the elastic body (11) is spaced away from the moving body (4) or contacts the moving body (4) with a frictional engagement force lower than that in the moveable state. |
