Provided is a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery, which includes a core including at least one selected among a nickel-based complex oxide presented by chemical formula 1 which is LiNi_xCo_yMn_(1-x-y)O_2 and lithium manganese oxide presented by chemical formula 2 which is Li_aMn_bO_c; and a coated layer located on the surface of the core and including lithium metal oxide presented by chemical formula which is Li_2MO_3. In addition, provided are a method for preparing the same, and a lithium secondary battery including the same. In the chemical formulas 1-3, x, y, a, b, c, and M are the same as defined in the specification respectively.
