PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program update system and a program update method capable of verifying the validity of update of a program executed on a vehicle side.SOLUTION: An out-vehicle device stores, as update data necessary for updating a control program stored in a control device, update data which includes an update control program for the control device to be updated and a computer program for implementing means for calculating a digest value associated with the update control program, means for determining whether operation of the updated control device is normal, and means for replying a determination result. The control device receives, through a relay device, the update data transmitted from the out-vehicle device to update the control program with the update control program included in the received update data, and also executes the computer program to determine whether operation after the update is normal, and then replies the determination result to the relay device. |
