PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that suppresses a document from being blown away when a document cover is opened, and reduces the influence of a member required for the suppression on image data read from the document; and an image forming apparatus including the image reading device.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes: an ADF that can be opened and closed relative to a document placing surface; a pressing part 16 that is provided in a recess 17 formed on a document cover 15 of the ADF, urged in a direction projecting from the document cover 15, and brought into contact with a document placed on the document placing surface when the ADF is closed to be stored in the recess 17; and a light irradiation part that can irradiate the document placing surface with light from gaps C1 formed between side walls of the recess 17 and the pressing part 16.
