searching a managed device in a computer network; discovering a plurality of program files on the managed device; discovering an installed package relating to an application on the managed device; applying a rule to package properties of the installed package to create a normalized representation of the installed package; retrieving a relationship between the installed package and the plurality of program files based on the normalized representation of the installed package; and marking the plurality of program files as belonging to the application based on the relationship between the installed package and the plurality of program files.
