Expandable Air Hose

The present invention provided an air hose that is configured to be used in conjunction with an air compressor. The air hose includes a tube portion having open proximal and distal ends. The tube portion includes a flat upper portion and lower portion connected at their ends to a pair of rounded shoulders that give the tube portion a substantially rectangular cross section in a collapsed state. The hose further includes radial plies that extend within the cross section across the upper, lower portions, and around the rounded shoulders. The radial plies bias the upper and lower portions together into a collapsed state, wherein the upper and lower portions are parallel and substantially in contact with one another. The upper and lower portions expand from a collapsed state to an expanded state when compressed air is forced therethrough giving the tube portion a substantially rounded cross section.

1) An expandable air hose with a flat construction when not pressurized, comprising:
a tube portion having a flat upper portion and a flat lower portion; said flat upper portion and said flat lower portion being substantially planar and connected at their ends to a pair of rounded shoulders that give said tube portion a substantially rectangular cross section; a plurality of radial plies extending within said cross section and across said flat upper portion, said flat lower portion and around said pair of rounded shoulders; wherein said radial plies bias said flat upper portion and said flat lower portion together into a collapsed state such that said flat upper portion and said flat lower portion are parallel and substantially in contact with one another; wherein said flat upper portion and said flat lower portion expand from a collapsed state to an expanded state when compressed air is forced therethrough; said expanded state of said tube portion being substantially rounded in cross section; said flat upper portion and said flat lower portion of said tube portion returning to said collapsed state when compressed air is not forced therethrough; and wherein said tube portion further comprises an open proximal end and open distal end.
