Provided is an illumination device in which a lighting part for notifying a decrease in the remaining capacity of a battery is easy to see. This illumination device (1) comprises: a lighting circuit that lights up LEDs (5a, 5b); and a control circuit that controls the output of the lighting circuit. When the surrounding brightness becomes darker than a predetermined value, the control circuit controls the lighting circuit so as to light up the LED (5a) with power from a commercial power supply. When a lighting operation is performed using a lighting switch (8), the control circuit lights up the LED (5b) with power from a battery. A lighting part (9) is provided so as to emit light from a portion of a device body (2) located on the upper side thereof in a state where a plug (4) provided on the back surface of the device body (2) is connected to a power supply outlet. When the remaining capacity of the battery falls below a predetermined capacity, the control circuit notifies the decrease in battery capacity by lighting up the lighting part (9).
