Provided are an oxynitride phosphor that is composed mainly of a JEM crystal and has a light-emitting property (light emission color or excitation property, light emission spectrum) that is different from existing JEM phosphors, and uses thereof. This phosphor comprises a JEM crystal that has been activated with an Eu represented by MAl(Si,Al)6(O,N)10 (where the M element is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr, Eu, La, Sc, Y, and lanthanoid elements; and at least Eu as well as Ca and/or Sr are included).
