The present invention relates to: a method for preparing a transgenic plant having an increased 20-hydroxyecdysone content compared with a wild-type plant, by transforming plant cells with a recombinant vector comprising a Spinacia oleracea-derived CYP85 (cytochrome P450, 85 family) protein-encoding gene; a transgenic plant having an increased 20-hydroxyecdysone content compared with a wild-type plant, prepared by the method, and a seed thereof; a composition for increasing the 20-hydroxyecdysone content of a plant, containing the Spinacia oleracea-derived CYP85 protein-encoding gene as an active ingredient; a method for preparing a transgenic plant with increased insect resistance by transforming plant cells with a recombinant vector comprising a Spinacia oleracea-derived CYP85 protein-encoding gene; a transgenic plant with increased insect resistance, prepared by the method, and a seed thereof; and a composition for increasing the insect resistance of a plant, containing the Spinacia oleracea-derived CYP85 protein-encoding gene as an active ingredient.
