[Problem] To provide a pi-conjugated macromolecule with which both "control of molecular weight in accordance with catalytic amount" and a "reduction in use of precious metal catalysts and transition metal catalysts" can be achieved. [Solution] In the formation of this pi-conjugated macromolecule, a monomer provided with a perfluoroarene group, a pi-electron unit, and a silyl group is used. A fluoride is used as an initiator and a catalyst. Due to this, beginning with the release of the silyl group from the first monomer, the pi-electron unit itself constitutes a nucleophilic anion. Meanwhile, the perfluoroarene group of the second monomer bonds with the nucleophilic anion in the first monomer. The fluoride anion generates/regenerates anew, and releases the silyl group in the monomer that is to be polymerized next. Therein, the amount of the fluoride anion constitutes the catalytic amount in relation to the monomer, and thus the molecular weight can be controlled in accordance with the catalytic amount. |
