PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a bent optical fiber which can suppress reduction in diameter of an optical fiber and achieve a desired radius of curvature.SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of a bent optical fiber includes: a first bending step of irradiating a first portion S1 of an optical fiber 1 with infrared laser pulse light L for thermal softening, and bending the softened optical fiber 1 at a first bending processing region C1 at a first angle &thetas;1; and a second bending step of irradiating a second portion S2 of the optical fiber 1 different from the first portion S1 with the infrared laser pulse light L for thermal softening, and bending the softened optical fiber 1 at a second bending processing region C2 at a second angle &thetas;2. The optical fiber 1 is bent with a predetermined radius of curvature in a region including the first portion S1 and the second portion S2. |
