PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for releasing chlorine dioxide from water containing or generating chlorine dioxide contained within a container, and in which the release of chlorine dioxide can easily be maintained for a long period of time not by adjusting the contained component but by using a packaging material having particular air permeability. ! SOLUTION: Provided is a method for releasing chlorine dioxide from water containing or generating chlorine dioxide contained within a container and the method is to release chlorine dioxide together with free water through a semi-permeable membrane, which is characterized in that: the water is absorbed in a substrate; the substrate is a porous inorganic particle and/or water absorbent resin particle; and the particle is still in a particle state even after absorbing the water containing or generating chlorine dioxide. !
