PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression apparatus and a compression method capable of compressing image data while preventing picture quality of a compressed image from being reduced.SOLUTION: The compression apparatus includes: a memory for storing an approximate pixel value of a pixel corresponding to a second line which is adjacent to a first line corresponding to a compression target pixel and in which compression of just a preceding pixel value is performed; a first compression part for outputting a compression result whose error is small from a first compression result in which a pixel value of the compression target pixel is compressed without referring to pixel values of other pixels and a second compression result compressed by utilizing correlation between the pixel value of the compression target pixel and the approximate pixel value stored in the memory in each of a plurality of compression target pixels continued correspondingly to the first line; a second compression part for outputting the compression result compressed by utilizing correlation of the pixel values of the plurality of compression target pixels; and a selection part for outputting the compression result whose error is small from the compression results outputted from the first compression part and the compression results outputted from the second compression part. |
