PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device which suppresses an amount of light to a predetermined amount or less and has high safety, and an image display device which has the light-emitting device and high safety.SOLUTION: A light-emitting device 9 comprises; a light-emitting element 91 that is an edge-emitting semiconductor laser; an optical variable resistive element 97 connected in parallel to the light-emitting element 91, and provided at a position where irradiated with the light emitted from the light-emitting element 91; a mount 93 on which the light-emitting element 91 and the optical variable resistive element 97 are mounted; and a mounting substrate 94 on which the mount 93 is mounted. The optical variable resistive element 97 is an element having a characteristic that its resistance value decreases as the amount of emitted light increases. Such elements include, for example, photoregisters. |
