PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To encode a plurality of viewpoint images composed of light field data at a higher compression rate.SOLUTION: One previously set viewpoint image out of a plurality of viewpoint images composed of light field data is set as a reference image, and the reference image is independently encoded in each pixel block. The other viewpoint images excluding the reference image out of the plurality of viewpoint images are predictively encoded while referring to the reference image. Provided that when relation between the reference image and a noticed viewpoint image of a target to be encoded is point symmetry about a center position of the plurality of viewpoint images or line symmetry about a segment passing the center position in the predictive encoding, a rotated/inverted image obtained by rotating or inverting the reference image in accordance with the relation is also used as a reference image for the predictive encoding in addition to the reference image. |
