In the present invention, the following are obtained: a direct current power source device able to curb cost increases and to curb unnecessary operation of an overcurrent protection circuit associated with a step-up operation, and able to stably sustain operation of a machine; and a refrigeration cycle application machine provided with the direct current power source device. The following are provided: a rectifier circuit (2) for rectifying an alternating current; a reactor (3) connected to an input side or output side of the rectifier circuit (2); a first capacitor (6a) and a second capacitor (6b) that are connected in series between output terminals to a load (10); and a charging means (7) for selectively charging the first capacitor (6a) and/or the second capacitor (6b). The ratio of a non-charging period to a combined period of a charging period and the non-charging period in one set of the first capacitor (6a) and the second capacitor (6b) is controlled in accordance with an operating state of the load (10), and when the output voltage to the load (10) is being controlled, the charging frequencies of the first capacitor (6a) and the second capacitor (6b) are changed in accordance with this ratio.
