A portable terminal equipped with: an antenna; a communication unit which has two modes consisting of an active mode for self-outputting a carrier wave, and a passive mode for using a carrier wave outputted by another device, attempts communication via electromagnetic induction using the antenna while alternatingly switching between the two modes, and communicates without switching modes during an interval in which communication is established; an N-bit counting unit for outputting a value which changes for each unit number, each time during communication when switching to at least one of the two modes; and a gain changing unit for changing the gain of a signal which the communication unit receives using the antenna, according to the value outputted by the N-bit counting unit. |
