This fuel property estimation device is provided, in a fuel route, with a first sensor for outputting a signal in accordance with a physical property value of a fuel, and is provided, in an exhaust passage, with a second sensor for outputting a signal in accordance with the oxygen concentration of exhaust gas. The fuel property estimation device is used in an internal combustion engine that uses a mixed fuel comprising fuels of three types. The fuel property estimation device measures a physical property value of the mixed fuel used in the internal combustion engine by using the first sensor and, using feedback of the signal from the second sensor, calculates the air-fuel ratio value when the combustion state of the internal combustion engine is adjusted stoichiometrically. Then, by referring to the relationship between the component ratio and the physical property value of the mixed fuel and the relationship between the component ratio and a theoretical air-fuel ratio value of the mixed fuel, the fuel property estimation device estimates the component ratio of the mixed fuel used in the internal combustion engine on the basis of the measured physical property value and the calculated air-fuel ratio value. |
