<p>Provided are a novel diamine, a polyamic acid, and a polyimide which are useful for obtaining a liquid-crystal alignment material giving a liquid-crystal alignment film which has a high voltage retentivity and is less apt to suffer initial charge accumulation therein even when a direct-current voltage is applied to the liquid-crystal cell. Also provided is a liquid-crystal alignment material. The liquid-crystal alignment material contains at least one of: a polyamic acid obtained by reacting a diamine ingredient comprising a diamine of formula [1] with a tetracarboxylic dianhydride ingredient; and a polyimide obtained by imidizing the polyamic acid.
