Disclosed are a method and apparatus for encoding and decoding data in a memory system. The encoding method according to the embodiment of the present invention generates a codeword by multiplying data obtained by combining data to be stored with auxiliary data according to a stuck cell by an encoding matrix based on information about the value and the coordinates of the stuck cell. The generated codeword includes data corresponding to the value of the stuck cell in an address corresponding to the coordinates of each stuck cell. The decoding method according to the embodiment of the present invention generates data by multiplying the inverse matrix of the encoding matrix used in the encoding process by the codeword.
