Disclosed are an intra prediction mode determination method and an apparatus therefor. The intra prediction mode determination method comprises the steps of: determining a candidate intra prediction mode through a first intra prediction calculation with respect to each of intra prediction modes which can use a target block as an object; and determining an optimal intra prediction mode through a second intra prediction calculation with respect to the target block by using an optimal intra prediction mode of a block adjacent to the target block and the determined candidate intra prediction mode.
