835,297. Heat exchangers. MARSTON EXCELSCIOR Ltd., and TROTTER, F. March 21, 1958 [April 9, 1957], No. 11604/57. Class 64(3) In a heat exchanger, heat conducting spacer elements capable of flexure under operating conditions extend between neighbouring tubes or plates having different coefficients of thermal expansion and may be brazed thereto. In the form shown, heat is exchanged between liquid sodium flowing in stainless steel tubes 1 and steam or water flowing in neighbouring mild steel tubes 2 through corrugated elements 4 each of which extends between a tube 1 and a tube 2 and is so shaped as to permit flexure, due e.g. to differences in the expansion of adjacent tubes or plates, whilst still remaining in contact with these members. Each element 4 preferably comprises a strip formed into a series of Z or S shaped portions each connected to its mirror image by a short connecting portion. |
