<p>A lift-recliner chair (10, figure 1) comprising a base (12, figure 1), movable seat (14, figure 1), backrest (16, figure 1) and actuator means 53 for moving the seat and backrest. The seat is pivotally mounted with respect to the base and the backrest is pivotally mounted with respect to the seat. A guide 32 is associated with one of the base and the seat and at least one follower 34 is associated with the other of the base and the seat and is movable along the guide. The guide is of arcuate form, providing pivotal movement with respect to the base about an axis central to the curvature of the guide to raise and lower the chair. The base includes a pair of parallel side panels 18. The seat includes a pair of elongate side members 30, adjacent the side panels, which carry the guide or follower associated with the seat. The elongate side members provide a means of mounting the seat section relative to the base, which allows the side panels to provide a guard around the moving parts, and also a fixed structure for mounting fixed armrests on the side of the chair.</p> |
