Class 53 A deferred-action cell is provided with separators that have been treated with an aqueous solution of a substance that releases potassium, carbonate, or hydroxyl ions when the battery is in action. The separators are vacuum dried before insertion in the cell which contains an electrolyte in dry form and which is activated by the addition of water when required for use. The separators may be made of blotting paper, cellulose acetate, regenerated cellulose, or copolymers of vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile, and they may be soaked in a solution of potassium sulphate, chloride, hydroxide or carbonate and then vacuum dried. |
