The present invention relates to an electrode assembly, which has an improved structure for protecting an electrode of a secondary battery from external impact, and to a secondary battery using the same. The electrode assembly to improve stability of a secondary battery according to the present invention comprises: a positive electrode plate; a negative electrode plate; and a separation film which is interposed between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate or is disposed on one surface of the positive electrode plate or the negative electrode plate wherein the thickness of the separation film becomes gradually increasing from the center to the outskirt of the electrode assembly. In the electrode assembly according to the present invention, the thickness of the separation film becomes gradually increasing from the center to outskirts, thereby protecting electrode plates disposed on the outskirt of the electrode assembly in a stable manner from external impact.
