<p>An antenna comprises an inductive winding 3 consisting of conductive elements which are substantially invisible to the naked human eye. The winding 3 is located between first and second terminals 1, 2 and it has a thickness and width which does not exceed 10 µm along the length of the conductive element. A plurality of conductive elements 3 may be connected in parallel between the first and second terminals 1, 2. The separation between the wound conductive element 3 portions may be at least 10 µm. Further conductive elements 4 with similar dimensions to those mentioned above may be arranged around the winding but not connected to the terminals. These further elements 4 may have a substantially uniform spaced pattern with that of the winding 3 to provide a uniform appearance. The winding 3, terminals 1, 2 and further conductive elements 4 may be supported on the surface of a substrate or they may be formed within recesses provided in the surface of the substrate. The substrate may be a flexible plastic material which is transparent to visible light. The antenna may be used in near field coupling NFC and/or radio frequency identification RFID systems.</p> |
