<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polymer emulsion which is fully satisfactory in polymerization stability and the mechanical stability of the polymer emulsion, furthermore has a small particle size of the polymer emulsion, and has good water resistance of the obtained coating composition and good gloss of a coated film and a coating composition. <P>SOLUTION: The process for producing a polymer emulsion includes a step of subjecting a monomer having an ethylenic double bond to emulsion polymerization in the presence of a surface active agent composition for emulsion polymerization having, as essential components, (a) a compound represented by formula (I) (wherein R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is -CH(CH<SB POS="POST">3</SB>)- or -CH<SB POS="POST">2</SB>-; R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>is a 1-6C alkyl group or hydrogen; A<SP POS="POST">1</SP>O is a 2-4C oxyalkylene group; n is an average addition molar number of the oxyalkylene group of 1-100; n of A<SP POS="POST">1</SP>O may be the same of different; m is an integer of 1-5; and M<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is a monovalent cation) and (b) an amide compound and/or an ammonium salt which has a solubility at 25°C in ethanol of not more than 5 g/100 mL in an amount of 0.05-2 pts.mass component (b) based on 100 pts.mass component (a). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
