A micro combined heat and power (mCHP) unit comprises an electric generator driven by an internal combustion (IC) engine, a first heat exchanger to transfer waste heat energy from the IC engine and/or the generator to heat a working fluid, a fuel burner, and a second heat exchanger to transfer additional heat of combustion to the working fluid. The IC engine 401 has a sump 402 for lubricant and an additional lubricant supply 403 to increase the overall amount of lubricant, and hence the service interval. Oil from the additional tank 403 may be supplied by pump 406 to the sump 402 either continuously or as required, e.g. under control of an engine control unit (ECU). Oil may be returned by flowing over a weir 408, thus maintaining a constant level in the sump.
|
