<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber preform with a dummy rod connected thereto not requiring a long time for processing for molding a connection end protrusively, not generating bubbles on a connection part, and not generating trouble on the connection part such as crazing or a crack starting from a bubble, and to provide a method for producing a dummy rod. <P>SOLUTION: In this method for producing an optical fiber preform with a dummy rod connected thereto, a step of connecting the dummy rod 11 and the optical fiber preform 10 coaxially includes: a step of cutting either end so that an angleθformed between a plane vertical to either center axis of the dummy rod 11 and the optical fiber preform 10 and a cross section of either end after cutting satisfies 0<tanθ; a step of melting by heat each facing end of the dummy rod 11 and the optical fiber preform 10, including the cut cross section; and a step of confronting and fusing mutually each molten end of the dummy rod 11 and the optical fiber preform 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT</p> |
