The present invention relates to a terminal and a control method thereof, and especially to a terminal and method to control a multi window environment following a fingerprint input. A terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a fingerprint input unit; a memory which saves an application or a motion mode decided to correspond to a fingerprint inputted through the fingerprint input unit; a control unit which senses at least one fingerprint input, inputted through the fingerprint unit in a standby mode state while the display unit is off, and converts the state of a screen from off to on, and implements at least one application or function corresponding to the inputted fingerprint; and a display unit, which is converted from off state to on state according to the fingerprint inputted through the fingerprint input unit and displays an application implementation state corresponding to the inputted fingerprint.
