<p>A chair tilting mechanism comprising upper and lower base portions each having at least a pair of side plates which are pivotally attached by a pin, at least one spring arranged to resist motion of the base portions wherein the spring is arranged at an angle to the base plates to reduce the level of asymmetrical stress on the spring during compression. The base portions may be arranged to form a rectangular box and the tilting mechanism may be used as part of a tilting office chair. The springs may be attached to both the upper and lower base portions and there may be four coil springs. Angling the springs provides for more even stress during compression and decompression reducing ware and tear.</p> |
