A method and apparatus for a testing facility for simulating downhole conditions is provided. The testing facility may include a test bench for expanding tubular members having one or more threaded connections. The test bench may also be operable to simulate the expansion of a tubular connection downhole and to produce expanded tubular connection test samples.

1. A method of expanding a tubular, comprising:
applying a pre-determined compression load to a first end of the tubular above ground; applying a pre-determined tension load to a second end of the tubular above ground, wherein the pre-determined compression and tension loads are acting in a longitudinal direction on the tubular simultaneously before expanding the tubular; radially expanding a portion of the tubular above ground; and maintaining the pre-determined compression and tension loads while radially expanding the portion of the tubular.
