A superconductive path 18 including an inductance 18a is connected in parallel with a second path 20 including a superconductive coil 20a, with less inductance than 18a, and a resistor R. When a current pulse is applied, the current flows as a pulse in the low inductance path 20 but then shifts wholly to path 18 in view of the resistor R. The total current I and the currents I1, I2 in the two paths 20, 18 are shown in Fig. 1a. A second pulse occurs in the coil 20a at the trailing edge of the driving pulse I. A superconductor 20g is controlled by the coil 20a. The superconductor 20g may be suitably biased to suppress one of the two pulses. The bias may be applied by means of a second coil around 20g in an independent circuit (not shown) or by a direct current in the coil 20a as shown in Fig. 3. The coil 20a may be used to trigger the monostable or single shot multivibrator described in Specification 887,112. In Fig. 5, one of the limbs 70, 72 is heated to direct the current 15 through the other limb. The resistive limb 74b (low inductance) of the parallel circuit 74 is used to heat limb 70 of the main circuit. A similar limb 76b of circuit 76 is used to heat limb 72.
