[Also in Division H1] A piezoelectric device uses a single crystal of aluminium nitride or a section thereof. The hydrophone of Fig. 1 uses a stack of crystal plates 3 with the C-axes of the plates arranged as indicated. Electrodes 6, 7 are arranged on the end faces and the stack is enclosed in an oil-filled rubber casing 4. A bimorph bender (Fig. 2) suitable for use as a pick-up element comprises two plates 10 with C-axes oriented in opposite directions. Electrodes 15, 16 are are arranged on the end faces. A delay line (Fig. 3, not shown), comprises an elongated rectangular prism of fused silica with rectangular crystal plates arranged on the end faces. The C-axes of the plates lie at right angles to the major faces which are electroded.</p> |
