A photosensitive composition comprising hydroxyapatite

Provided is a photosensitive composition comprising synthetic nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite or a synthetic precursor thereof doped with a rare earth ion and one or more synthetic minerals of formula CaHPO4.xH2O, wherein x is 0, 1 or 2. In an embodiment the composition comprises synthetic nanocrystalline hydroxyapaptite or octacalcium phosphate doped with a rare earth ion, wherein the nanocrystalline hydroxyapaptite or octacalcium phosphate is fluoride ion-substituted and further doped with aluminium ions and further comprises monetite and brushite. The composition is of use in dentistry, particularly for whitening, veneering or imaging teeth.
