Disclosed are an apparatus for transmitting power and a control method thereof. The apparatus for transmitting power of the present invention comprises: a first main relay interposed between (+) terminals of a high voltage power supply unit and a high voltage load, and electrically interrupted; a second main relay interposed between (-) terminals of the high voltage power supply unit and the high voltage load, and electrically interrupted; a semiconductor switch connected with the first main relay in parallel; a back current prevention unit interposed between the semiconductor switch and the high voltage power supply unit and preventing back current to the high voltage power supply unit; a driving condition measurement unit measuring driving conditions according to driving of a power relay assembly; and a relay control unit operating the first to second main relay and the semiconductor switch according to an enable signal from a battery control unit and supplying or blocking power to the high voltage load, and blocking power to the high voltage load by receiving driving conditions inputted from the driving condition measurement unit and emergency conditions from the battery control unit.
